High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! RAF Station Ramsbury is a former World War II airfield in Wiltshire, England. The airfield is located approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) east-northeast of Marlborough; about 70 miles (110 km) west of London. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Force. During the war it was used primarily as a transport airfield. After the war it was closed in 1946. Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property being used as agricultural fields. Construction of Ramsbury airfield began in mid-1941 and the majority of the work was completed by August 1942. When originally built Ramsbury airfield was intended for use by RAF operational training units, but on 11 June 1942 it was one of the 13 bases allocated to the USAAF for use by transport and observation squadrons.
