Plukenetia conophora (Walnut) is a multipurpose liana with potentials that are highly valuable as food, medicine and source of income which are man's basic needs. The nuts and leaves are used as nutritional supplement, phyto medicine, socio culturally and a means of livelihood to those who propagate it. Walnut is an oil rich nut and a great source of Omega 3 fatty acids. The oil could also be used as a massage and industrially in the paint and vanish industries if produced in large quantity. This book describes the silviculture and conservation of this useful liana to prevent it from going into extinction.
Joyce Amadi is a Research Scientist with the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, Ibadan. She holds a doctoral degree from University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Her research work is on propagation, improvement and conservation of indigenous fruit trees and climbers. Her PhD research is on Plukenetia conophora (Walnut). She is married with children.
